A messenger of God. A prophet is normally associated with giving future revelations. However, messages divinely inspired, that is to say, from God, are not limited to a revelation of the future. The message can address current events, warnings, messages of love, a call to action or simply an expositions of God’s character. Whatever the message, a prophet is expected to have a direct link to information delivered directly from God or an angel and usually precedes the revelation of the message with an indication it is not in their words. The most common phrase known is “thus saith the Lord” but can be interpreted as, “God told me”, “God said”, “I have been shown”, “I have seen in vision” and so on.
